Classic 20th century japanese role-playing action

Septerra Core: Legacy Of The Creator, developed by the now-defunct Shiny, was a classic Japanese RPG game released in late 1999. In terms of opinion, the game is widely disagreed upon. For instance, EuroGamer gave the game a rating of 4/10, whilst IGN wildly differed and gave Septerra Core: Legacy Of The Creator an 8/10. The game itself relies on turn based combat and a lengthy storyline.

Features

Septerra Core: Legacy Of The Creator proudly boasts that the game has a 100-hour storyline, which is about four times the length of an average Grand Theft Auto game. To compliment this, the game also features diverse voice-acting and intricate character design. The combat system is intricately made, and requires players to think strategically in order to advance. For many gamers who love RPGs, this game is reminiscent of a classic Final Fantasy game, even if it lacks the finesse of such a heavyweight title.

Conclusion

With a mixed reception, and its rather unique target audience, Septerra Core: Legacy Of The Creator was not a great commercial success and a sequel was never devised. However the game is still fondly remembered nearly 18 years on from its release by a select few who populate the RPG community.

PROS

  • Tremendous lifespan
  • Good character design

CONS

  • Slow combat system
  • Dialogue is clunky
